How does Cognitive Behavioural Therapy work?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the main approach I use in my Counselling sessions.
It is mainly short term and goal focussed which encourages you, with my support, to set your own goals to achieve. It helps you become more aware of your thinking patterns and how they affect your feelings and behaviour.
As opposed to focussing too much on your past, my aim is to focus more on your current concerns and how you can move forward and overcome them. However, if your past comes up in the sessions which is relevant and possibly a cause to your problem, then we may explore that together.
We will use different interventions which will help you change your negative thinking into positive thinking, which will in turn help you manage or reduce uncomfortable feelings. I will give you emotional tools to help you overcome negativity, and you can continue to use these tools in the future.
You are in control of your thoughts, and counselling will help you realise this.
